How Travel Advisories Affect Your Coverage
Travel insurance coverage may be affected when the Government of Canada issues travel advisories for your destination. Here’s how each advisory level impacts your policy:
| Advisory Level | Impact on Coverage |
|---|---|
| Exercise normal security precautions | Full coverage applies |
| Exercise a high degree of caution | Full coverage applies |
| Avoid non-essential travel | Coverage may be limited. Trip cancellation may apply if advisory issued after policy purchase. |
| Avoid all travel | Coverage is typically excluded for new travel to this destination. Trip cancellation applies if advisory issued after policy purchase. |
Check Your Destination
Before purchasing travel insurance or departing on your trip, always check the current advisory level for your destination at travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories.
Important Notes
- Advisories in effect at the time you purchased your policy are not covered reasons for trip cancellation
- Advisories issued after your purchase date may trigger trip cancellation coverage
- Emergency medical coverage remains in effect regardless of advisory level if you are already at your destination
- Always call TuGo’s 24/7 emergency line (1-800-663-0399) if you need assistance while travelling
